Screen Mint allows you to record your screen, window, or browser tab and instantly build a complete video with custom text, image, audio, and video overlays using a built-in multi-track editor.

🚀 Getting Started
How to Start Recording
- Install the Screen Mint Chrome Extension.
- Click the Screen Mint icon in the Chrome toolbar.
- Click Start Recording.
- Choose what you want to record:
- Entire Screen
- Application Window
- Browser Tab
- Click Share. Recording will begin immediately.
⏹ How to Stop Recording You can stop recording in two ways:
- Option 1: Click the Screen Mint extension icon, then click Stop Recording.
- Option 2: Click Chrome’s “Stop sharing” button.
After stopping, your recording will automatically open in the Screen Mint editor.
✂️ Editing Your Recording Screen Mint includes a powerful, built-in non-linear video editor. After recording, you can:
- Trim & Cut: Split the main video timeline and click any segment to instantly remove it.
- NEW – Rearrange Clips: Click and drag your main video segments horizontally to create gaps or change the pacing of your video.
- NEW – Visual Timeline: The timeline displays frame-by-frame visual thumbnails of your recording, helping you find the exact moment you want to edit.
- Restore: Restore removed segments with a single click.
- Scrollable Timeline: If you are working with a longer recording, simply scroll horizontally across the timeline to smoothly navigate your workspace.
- Adjust Workspace: Use the slider at the top right to resize the video player, giving yourself more or less room to work on your timeline tracks.
🎨 Working with Overlays (Text, Image, Audio, Video)
- Multi-Track Overlays: Click “Add Track” to create dedicated layers for custom media.
- NEW – Audio & Video Layers: You can now upload your own MP3 audio files or MP4 video clips directly onto the timeline!
- Quick-Add Menu: Click anywhere on an empty track lane to open the inline menu and instantly insert text or media at that exact timestamp.
- NEW – Cut Overlays: Click on any existing text, image, audio, or video overlay to open the cut menu and split it in half.
- Extend Your Video: Want to add an outro? Drag any media past the end of your original recording. Screen Mint will automatically extend your final video’s duration with a black background.
- Adjust Customization: Fine-tune font sizes, audio volume, and transparency (opacity) using the interactive sliders and menus.
- Preview & Export: Preview all edits instantly and click Download to export the final video.
⌨️ Keyboard Shortcuts Speed up your workflow with these editor shortcuts:
- Spacebar or K: Play / Pause.
- S: Split the timeline at the current playhead.
- Delete / Backspace: Remove the selected video segment.
- Esc: Deselect the current segment or close the inline track menu.
- Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z: Undo your last split, cut, or move.
- M: Mute / Unmute video playback.
📁 Where Are My Recordings Saved? Your final video is automatically downloaded to your computer in WebM format. By default, it is saved in your Chrome Downloads folder. You can change this location in:
- Chrome → Settings → Downloads
🔊 Audio Recording Audio support depends on your operating system.
- Windows: Supported
- ChromeOS: Supported
- macOS: Limited due to OS restrictions. (Note: macOS does not support system audio capture via browser tabs. If you get a ‘NotReadableError’, please ensure Chrome has Screen Recording permissions in your Mac System Settings).
For best results when recording audio:
- Select the correct tab when recording.
- Enable Share tab audio when Chrome asks.
⚠ Recording Did Not Start If recording does not begin:
- Make sure you selected a screen / window / tab.
- Click Share in the Chrome screen picker.
- Ensure another recording tool is not running.
- Try refreshing the page and recording again.
⚠ Recording Stopped Unexpectedly Recording may stop if:
- You clicked Stop sharing.
- The recorded window was closed.
- The browser tab was closed.
- Chrome was restarted.
Simply start a new recording.
